This city gets its name from the word “ udupa” which means moon. The city gets shaped when the moon performs his penance at this place. Being mentioned in one of the very famously known vedic scriptures, Udupi is believed to be the foremost city of Southern India and for being listed in the topline it's a popularly visited tourist destination.
Sri Krishna temple
The Krishna Temple of Udupi is one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in South India. Here the attractive idol of the Lord is decorated with gems and a golden chariot. But there is one thing that makes this temple special, that is the worship method of this temple. Yes, the entire puja prayer and process takes place through a silver-plated window with nine holes called "Navagraha Kitiki''. Several temples known as Udupi Anantheshwara Temple surround the Sri Krishna Matha. This temple is believed to be 1000 years old.
Chandramauleshwar temple
Known as the temple of the moon, according to Hindu beliefs once the moon is cursed for his wrongdoing then, with the aim of getting rid of its dreadful effect moon performs penance and prayed Lord shiva therefore named as Chandramouleshwara
Shri Mookambika temple
One of the seven holiest sites of salvation, the Mookambika Temple is dedicated to the goddess of emotional power and strength. The temple has a golden coat of arms and a copper roof. The great philosopher Adishankaracharya is said to have visited this temple to do his penance. It is also believed that Adi Shankaracharya dedicated an idol to Goddess Mookambika.
