Nashik is one of the most ancient cities in Maharashtra and can be traced back to the epic of Ramayana as it is believed that Lord Rama stayed here during his 14-year exile. It is one of the four designated holy cities of the subcontinent where the Kumbh Mela takes place every 12 years.
Trimbakeshwar Temple
It is one of the twelve jyotirlingas spread across the subcontinent. The temple’s Shiva Linga has a unique shape depicting the Tridev or the 3 supreme Hindu deities i.e Shiva, Brahma, and Vishnu, unlike any other Shiva Linga. The temple is located 28km from the city of Nashik in Trimbakeshwar. The temple’s top is built in the shape of a stone-carved lotus also called Shikhara style of architecture.
Sri Kalaram Temple
This temple dedicated to Lord Rama is situated in the Panchavati area of Nashik and is one of the most important shrines in the city. It was built around the 7th-11th century in the Rashtrakuta period and is an important part of history.
Panchavati
It is a serene area located at the banks of the Godavari river and is believed to be the residence of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita for two and a half years during their exile. The place holds great religious significance, especially to the devotees of Ramayana, and has various temples built in respect of the related Gods.
Sri Saptashrungi Gad
It is located at a distance of 60km from Nashik in Nanduri and is dedicated to Goddess Saptashrungi. It is a part of the 51 Shakti Peethas located all over the subcontinent. The idol is carved in a cave on a mountain and holds great religious importance, especially to the locals.
