The history of Rourkela is intertwined with India’s first public sector steel mill. The Steel Authority of India (SAIL) founded the plant within the 1960’s with the assistance of German conglomerate Krupp and Demag. Since then the town has kept with modernization and grown to become Odisha’s one among the foremost calculated and picturesque cities. As a full Rourkela is the ideal confluence of a city living and a nature retreat. The town was selected as smart city within the third phase of smart city list on 20 September 2016.
Hanuman Vatika is named after one amongst the best statues of Hanuman. Inaugurated within the year 1994 by the then Chief Minister of Orissa, Biju Patnaik. Here a statue of Hanuman is built with a peak of 75 feet. There are a variety of temples named as Bata Managla, Binayak, Vaishnodevi, Sarala, Dwadash Linga, Siva, Santoshi Maa, Maa Laxmi etc constructed here for the devotees. Thanks to the beauty scenario and green area, a number of general visitors came to the current place every day here.
Vaishnodevi Temple at Rourkela may be a replica of the initial Temple of Vaishno Devi of Jammu (Trikuta Hills) and is situated on the highest of the Durgapur Hill facing towards Rourkela manufactory. Bhairavnath Temple is situated near Vaishno Devi Temple on Capitol Hill. In 2007, the Temple of Goddess Durga, located on the highest of Capitol Hill, was opened for visitors. During Durga Puja, within the spring and autumn seasons, the Navaratri Festival is widely known, many Hindu worshippers come here.
Dedicated to the author of the epic Mahabharata, sage Vedvyas, could be a popular tourist place of the Steel City. consistent with local folklore- the famous sage had visited the location on which this day temple is constructed.
The white marvel temple structure, beautifully adorned with art works and having a golden pot at its top, gives a glance of a palace. In addition to the daily rituals, on auspicious days like Bhado Amavasya or the no-moon day, special pujas are offered here. Each day meals are distributed here on payment basis.
Mandira dam is found near Kansbahal in Sundergarh district, Odisha, India. it's built across the Sankh river, located 16 km upstream from Mandira. The water from the dam is employed for Rourkela mill. Construction of the dam began after 1957. The dam displaced 2400 families and only 843 were resettled
Jangha Dev Temple, situated in Badgaon village, which is sort of about 70 km from Rourkela is devoted to Lord Jangha Dev. The interesting thing about this temple is that only the lower part of the body of the deity i.e. from thigh to knee is worshipped by the devotees. Jangha Dev has been thought to be the perceptible God by the local inhabitants. The annual temple festival called Bhoipali festival, held within the month of Pausa is attended by an outsized number of individuals from different parts of the state, especially from the Gond community.
